About Broadband Internet UK
Established since 2004, Broadband Internet UK has grown into one of the UK's leading broadband, phone & TV price comparison and information websites. It has also been awarded status as a BBC Website Of The Day.
We are different to other broadband comparison websites as we look beyond what the broadband providers say themselves and seek out information on actual average 24-hour broadband speeds, latency (also referred to as ping or lag), customer service performance and customer complaint levels. We aim to bring our readers new insight and analysis that no one else has. By doing these things, our readers can make an informed decision on their choice of supplier that is right for them, not the provider.
The website is updated daily enabling the British public to check which of the UK's best Internet providers is cheapest for ADSL copper broadband, superfast fibre broadband and ultrafast fibre broadband in their postcode area.
All costs associated with each broadband product, like setup fees, router delivery charges and phone line rental are included, so users can compare services with confidence before choosing a deal.
How Does Broadband Internet UK Make Money?
We specialise in providing independent broadband reviews, detailed guides & handy broadband comparison tools that should help you decide which broadband supplier and package is right for you. We are able to provide this free service to you because we receive a small affiliate commission from the new broadband provider you sign up with - which means we are supported & funded by your (our readers) actions. This only happens when you click on links or buttons on this website which take you through to a broadband provider website, from which you place your order. As mentioned above, it's worth remembering that you do not pay any extra for your chosen broadband package by signing up through this site. Find out more about us here.
Frequently Asked Questions By Our Users
We've listed below the top frequently asked questions we've received from our users:
Can I switch my broadband Internet provider whenever I want to?
Yes you can, but it is wise to switch supplier when your contract period ends (when you are out of contract) as there will be no cancellation charges to pay. If you're not aware of when your contract ends, simply give your existing provider a call to find out.
Should you receive notification from your existing provider of a forthcoming increase in the price of your broadband package, under Ofcom rules, you may be allowed to exit your contract without penalty within 30 days of receiving the price increase notice. Check out our article on the 3 ways to beat the broadband price increase 2023.
Do I need to get a MAC code from my existing supplier to switch to a new cheaper provider?
No, not anymore. The process is now far more easier if you're switching from and to a provider that uses the BT Openreach network (e.g BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet & many more). There's no need for you to contact your existing supplier as the responsibility for the broadband and landline switch lies with the company you are switching to. So, once you've chosen a new Internet provider and ordered a new package on their website, they'll do the rest and email you the estimated date for the transfer of service. You should only lose your landline and broadband connection for a minimal time on the day of the switch.
This new process does not apply if you're switching to or from Virgin Media, where you'll need to liaise with both providers regarding the timings of the switch.

Which broadband Internet provider in the UK is the best?
Though standard ADSL copper broadband with average download speeds of 10Mbps are available to most parts of the UK (97%), faster fibre optic broadband, with types such as 'Superfast Broadband', 'Ultrafast Broadband', and 'Full Fibre' or 'Gigabit capable' Broadband provide a far better experience and can offer average speeds ranging from 36Mbps to 1Gbps (1 Gigabit per second). Superfast Broadband with average fibre speeds of at least 30Mbps are now available to 95% of UK homes, while around 70% of UK homes can access Ultrafast/Gigabit Broadband average speeds of 1Gbps - which is mainly due to the Virgin Media network. To find out which provider is best suited for you, go ahead and check availability in your area with our fibre broadband checker and bear in mind that other top broadband providers like Sky, Plusnet and TalkTalk use the BT Openreach fibre optic network for their own fibre services. Ultrafast and Full-Fibre broadband networks with speeds capable of 1 gigabits per second (1Gbps) are being rolled out in areas across the country by the likes of Virgin Media, Openreach (used by the likes of BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, Plusnet & others), CityFibre (used by Vodafone, TalkTalk and others), Gigaclear and Hyperoptic. Check out our fibre broadband guide for further information or our article on the BT fibre checker tool.
