1. Gigafast Broadband In The UK

Gigafast broadband networks with exciting top speeds averaging 1Gbps (1,000Mbps) are being rolled out across the UK by a range of infrastructure providers like City Fibre (used by Vodafone, TalkTalk, Giganet & others), Openreach (used by BT, Sky, Plusnet, TalkTalk, Vodafone & others), Virgin Media & Hyperoptic. According to the latest Ofcom Annual Connected Nations Report 2022 (last published in December 2022), gigabit capable broadband was available to 70% of UK properties in September 2022, which equates to roughly 21 million homes.

More recent studies in January 2023 indicate coverage has increased to around 73% of UK properties. In this article, we take a closer look at Vodafone Gigafast Broadband, detailing its full fibre speeds, which areas it is available and the current deals on offer. It's useful to know that Vodafone is currently one of the UK's largest full fibre broadband providers, making its gigafast speeds available to over 8.8 million UK homes.

2. What Is Vodafone Gigafast Broadband?

Gigafast broadband from Vodafone is the company's fastest home broadband, offering top average downloads speeds of 900Mbps using a full fibre connection direct from the telephone exchange to the home. Vodafone Gigafast speeds are up to 14 times faster than the average fixed broadband service in the UK, including Vodafone's standard fibre broadband packages. Vodafone has partnered with network infrastructure providers City Fibre and Openreach to offer its range of Gigafast packages, with prices starting from £28 a month.

3. Vodafone Gigafast Speeds

Customers have a choice of 4 Gigafast download speeds to choose from; Full Fibre 100, Full Fibre 200, Full Fibre 500 and Full Fibre 900. Uploads speeds are the same as download speeds (this is commonly referred to as symmetrical speeds) if you reside within a City Fibre network build area like Aberdeen, Coventry and Northampton (see further below for a full list of locations). Those households located in an Openreach network build area like Liverpool, Birmingham or Bristol will experience slower upload speeds compared to download speeds (this is know as asymmetrical speeds). This may typically mean a 100Mbps upload speed with the Vodafone Full Fibre 900 package.

4. Which Areas Are Covered By Vodafone Gigafast Broadband?

Vodafone Gigafast Broadband is now available in over 35 towns and cities across the UK. Following Vodafone's expanded partnership with CityFibre back in November 2021, Vodafone is now able to offer full fibre gigafast speeds to over 8.8 million UK homes - making it one of the UK's largest full fibre broadband providers.

Some of the 35 towns & cities are as follows; Aberdeen (City Fibre network), Birmingham (Openreach network), Bradford (City Fibre network), Bournemouth (City Fibre network), Bristol (Openreach network), Cambridge (City Fibre network), Coventry (City Fibre network), Derby (City Fibre network), Edinburgh (City Fibre network), Glasgow (City Fibre network), Huddersfield (City Fibre network), Leeds (City Fibre network), Leicester (City Fibre network), Liverpool (Openreach network), Milton Keynes (City Fibre network), Northampton (City Fibre network), Nottingham (City Fibre network), Paisely (City Fibre network), Peterborough (City Fibre network), Reading (City Fibre network), Slough (City Fibre network), Southend-on-Sea (City Fibre network), Stirling (City Fibre network) & Swindon (City Fibre network).

City Fibre are rolling out full fibre broadband to hundreds more locations in 2023 and beyond, so Vodafone Gigafast Broadband will be available soon in a range of areas like; Barnsely, Batley, Bath, Bolton, Cheltenham, Crawley, Dewsbury, Gloucester, Harrogate, Maidenhead, Medway, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Sheffield, Solihull, Sunderland, Weston-Super-Mare, Wolverhampton, Worcester & Worthing.

You can quickly check whether gigafast broadband from Vodafone is available at your home by entering your postcode at the Vodafone website.

Should you live in an area where Vodafone Gigafast Broadband is not currently available, don't worry, as in most instances, Vodafone's fibre broadband packages will be available, with prices starting from just £26 a month for 67Mbps download speeds.
