TalkTalk Rebrands As UK’s Brighter Phone & Broadband

TalkTalk (TalkTalk.co.uk) has launched a new heavy weight advertising campaign which rebrands the company as Britain’s brighter phone and broadband company.

The move follows TalkTalk’s recent acquisition of the Tiscali UK business which made the TalkTalk Group, comprising the brands TalkTalk, AOL and Tiscali as the UK’s largest home broadband provider with over 4 million customers.

The advertising campaign involving outdoor posters, press and TV, aims to communicate TalkTalk’s stature and Britishness whilst also portaying its bright ideas for providing better value and more reliable broadband and phone services.
It uses creative featuring words and images created by ‘light graffiti’ set against night-time backdrops across Britain, including Whitehall, Primrose Hill, Brighton beach and Canal Street in Manchester.
The Marketing Director at TalkTalk, Olivia Streatfeild, said: “Customers are looking for a phone and broadband company that gives them great value and outstanding service. Our new campaign focuses on the bright ideas we already have – like free local calls for millions of our customers, ensuring your family is safer online, and making our Essentials package the richest in the market – and underlines our intention to keep innovating in these areas over the coming months”.

TalkTalk has announced that its free broadband connection offer will end on Sunday 14th June 2009.

To coincide with this, the TalkTalk website has been updated with a countdown ticker to remind people of how many days, hours, minutes and seconds are left before this web only offer expires.

The free broadband connection offer means new subscribers can get TalkTalk broadband and offpeak calls, including local daytime calls for just £6.49 a month, that’s just £77.88 for the year, excluding normal telephone line rental charges.

TalkTalk To Be De-Merged From Carphone Warehouse

The Carphone Warehouse has confirmed that TalkTalk will be completely de-merged from the company by July 2010 – with the businesses likely to become two separate listed companies.

TalkTalk is currently the Carphone Warehouse’s UK home phone and broadband division. It delivers fixed line phone services to more than 3.9 million homes with 2.8 million of these also taking broadband.
It will become the UK’s second largest broadband supplier once its acquisition of the Tiscali UK broadband business is completed later this month.

The CEO of the Carphone Warehouse, Charles Dunstone, said, “It’s been increasingly obvious that the group is now two businesses – Best Buy Europe and TalkTalk Group. The one grew out of the other; but both have now reached the stage where there are no material synergies between them and where, for operational and competitive reasons, they need to operate independently. The businesses are effectively run as separate entities already, each with highly experienced and strong management teams.”

He continued, “The logic to demerge the two businesses and to give each shareholder a proportional direct interest in both is therefore clear. We have undertaken the necessary planning to confirm our view that this is in shareholder’s interests and to determine the practicable way of achieving the demerger process at the latest by July 2010.”

In related news Vodafone and the Carphone Warehouse have reconnected for the first time since 2006.

In 2006 the Carphone Warehouse stopped selling Vodafone contract mobile phones in its stores. Now customers will once again be able to buy Vodafone mobiles from the Carphone Warehouse.

TalkTalk Launch Home Mover Broadband Package

TalkTalk have today launched a new home mover broadband package that makes it easier for people to transfer their broadband service when they move home.

The new service does this by eliminating the need for people to sign up with BT first.

Typically when a person moves into a new home which does not have cable or a BT landline, they have to sign up with BT for a telephone line to be installed. If they then wanted to sign up with a different provider like TalkTalk for their broadband they would have to cancel their BT landline – which would incur a £120 charge.

With TalkTalk customers do not have to worry about this costly and lengthy procedure. New customers pay only £59.99 for a new broadband connection to be installed, while existing TalkTalk customers gain the most with their re-installation fee costing just £29.99.

The Managing Director of TalkTalk, Wendy Becker, said, “Customers have more than enough to worry about when moving home, so we’re pleased to be able to take the hassle – and a lot of the cost – out of the process of getting your home phone and broadband up and running.”

Further information on TalkTalk’s Home Mover Broadband package can be found at the TalkTalk.co.uk website or by calling TalkTalk on 0800 049 7865.
