PlusNet Reduce Broadband Contract Lengths
Broadband provider PlusNet (Plus.Net) has cut the length of its broadband contracts from 18 months to 12 months.
As well as reducing the contract length for new and existing customers, PlusNet has also ammended their cancellation policy.
The new policy means customers will only be charged the cost of setting up their account or for any hardware they have taken if they leave PlusNet within 12 months of joining.
This is instead of being charged for the outstanding subscription that they owe, a policy which other broadband providers tend to operate.
Customers can also choose to pay for set-up and hardware up front if they want the flexibility to leave without notice, an option often referred to in the industry as broadband with no contract.
Anthony Vollmer, CEO of Plusnet said, “Moving to shorter commitment periods allows customers so much more flexibility. We want our customers to stay with us because they love our phone and broadband products, not because we have tied them into lengthy contracts”.
Recently voted as the UK’s ‘Best Value Home Broadband Provider’, PlusNet offers broadband speeds up to 8Mbps from just £5.99 a month.
Those readers interested in switching to one of PlusNet’s shorter, more flexible broadband contracts can find out more at the Plus.Net website.

Twitter Helps BE Broadband Users Keep Informed
UK broadband supplier BE (bethere.co.uk) has set up a Twitter profile to help keep its customers informed of any problems or outages with the BE Broadband network.
The feed will be used to update BE broadband users daily on upcoming planned network outages at their exchange, so that they won’t be surprised at any changes to their service.
The Twitter profile (available at http://twitter.com/BEStatus) will also be able to alert members to any short notice or unplanned outages. A sample message from the profile could read “Planned outages on BROMSGROVE, DROITWICH on 17th between 3am-6am.”
Commenting on the new service, the Head of Marketing at BE Broadband, Oli White, said, “We’re constantly looking for innovative new ways of communicating with our members using tools that are currently available. Twitter is perfect for sending out short messages to people that want to subscribe to them, so it was a natural fit for us to offer this service to customers”.
White continued, “Hopefully it should add to the numerous other channels we use to communicate with our members and should help to prevent any surprise from outages”.
