BE Broadband To Supply Free Wi-Fi Service
BE Broadband (bethere.co.uk) has announced that it is to supply a free Wi-Fi broadband service to 46 UK communities in conjunction with Freerunner.
Freerunner is a free public W-Fi broadband service for remote or underserved communities in the UK that urgently need access to the Internet.
The 46 communities, selected following a Freerunner competition in September, will be given 3 years free Wi-Fi broadband access.
Commenting on the announcement, the Head of Operations at BE Broadband, Tom Williams, said, “We’re proud to be part of the Freerunner mission and agree that WiFi should be more widely available. Freerunner’s attitude reminds me of what BE did for broadband when we created the first UK ADSL 2+ network”.
Williams continued, “Our members are more likely to hang out in independent shops and cafes, so we’re proud to hook up Freerunner communities with fast and unlimited broadband”.
The CEO of Freerunner, Owen Geddes, said, “We are very excited to have BE on board as our first corporate partner. BE will be providing a broadband connection to those that don’t have any connection at all, completely free of charge as part of this project.”
Geddes added, “It is incredible to think that a small piece of relatively low cost technology is going to fundamentally change nearly 50 communities across the UK”.
BE Broadband was the first UK broadband supplier to deliver download speeds up to 24Mbps and upload speeds up to 2.5Mbps.
Their Value package, providing broadband speeds up to 8Mbps with an unlimited download allowance is currently half price at £6.75 a month until the 28th December.
Further information on BE’s packages can be found at the the bethere.co.uk website.
