Virginmedia.com/100Mb Broadband Roll Out Dates
Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com/100Mb) has released the roll out dates for its new 100Mbps fibre optic broadband speeds.
Providing customers with download speeds up to 20 times faster than the average broadband speeds in the UK, the 100Mbps service will be available from this December to parts of London, the South East and Yorkshire.
By mid 2012, the company expects to have completed the 100Mbps roll-out across its fibre optic broadband network which covers over 13 million UK homes.
Equipped with speeds close to 100Mbps, customers will be able to download an entire music album in 5 seconds, a TV show in 30 seconds, a high quality movie in 1½ minutes and a high definition movie in 7 minutes.
Commenting on the launch, Virgin Media’s CEO, Neil Berkett, said: “The launch of our 100Mb service is a significant milestone in the UK’s broadband evolution and a vivid illustration of the power of our next generation network”.
Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the news, saying: “We want to see superfast broadband brought to peoples’ homes and businesses right across the country and this exciting news takes us a step closer towards reaching that goal.”
Pricing for the Virgin Broadband 100Mbps service, which also features 10Mb upload speeds, starts from £35 a month when taken as part of a broadband and phone bundle, or £45 when purchased as a sole package.
New customers switching to Virgin Media can currently get broadband speeds up to 50Mbps and weekend phone calls for as little as £12.50 a month as part of the company’s new 6 months half price offer.
Free installation (saving £40) is also available to new customers who order online.
