Virgin Launch 50Mb Next Generation Broadband

Virgin Media has today launched its 50Mb next generation broadband service – putting the ISP top of the broadband speed tables.

Known as Virgin Broadband XXL, the high speed service is initially available in parts of Scotland, the Midlands and South London – And will be rolled out to the rest of the 12.6 million UK homes covered by Virgin’s fibre optic network by July 2009.

The new 50Mb next-gen Virgin Broadband service costs just £35 a month when taken with a Virgin Media phone line for £11 a month or £51 per month on its own.

Customers will receive a free wireless ‘N’ router and wireless ‘N’ USB adaptor as part of a special launch offer. Free PCguard Total internet security is also provided, while a standard £30 installation fee applies.

The launch of the 50Mb next generation broadband service follows the company’s extensive trials in Kent during 2008.
