Virgin Media (VirginMedia.com<\/a>) will make history this month with the completion of its 50Mb next generation broadband network \u2013 which is Britain\u2019s first.<\/p>\n

Using the latest DOCSIS 3.0 technology, the company has tripled its network capacity and will be the first ISP to offer up to 50Mbps broadband speeds to over 12 million UK homes.<\/p>\n

Virgin Media also announced that it will commence trials of upload speeds of up to 10Mb, which are much faster than the download speeds of most ADSL connections. The company will also be exploring the demand for higher upstream speeds from bandwidth hungry families.
\nThe Executive Director of Broadband at Virgin Media, Jon James said, \u201cAs the first company to bring broadband to the UK ten years ago, the completion of our next-generation network marks another pioneering moment for internet access in the UK\u201d.<\/p>\n

James continued, \u201cWe are delighted with the performance and reliability of our 50Mb service, and with the customer feedback. Now the roll-out is days from being complete, we\u2019re ready to take 50Mb to the next stage of development and reinforce our leading position in the broadband market.\u201d<\/p>\n

Virgin Media is also piloting 200Mb broadband speeds in Ashford, Kent.<\/p>\n
