Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com\/100Mb<\/a>) has released the roll out dates for its new 100Mbps fibre optic broadband speeds.<\/b>
\nProviding customers with download speeds up to 20 times faster than the average broadband speeds in the UK, the 100Mbps service will be available from this December to parts of London, the South East and Yorkshire.
\nBy mid 2012, the company expects to have completed the 100Mbps roll-out across its fibre optic broadband network which covers over 13 million UK homes.
\nEquipped with speeds close to 100Mbps, customers will be able to download an entire music album in 5 seconds, a TV show in 30 seconds, a high quality movie in 1\u00bd minutes and a high definition movie in 7 minutes.
\nCommenting on the launch, Virgin Media’s CEO, Neil Berkett, said: \u201cThe launch of our 100Mb service is a significant milestone in the UK\u2019s broadband evolution and a vivid illustration of the power of our next generation network”.
\nPrime Minister David Cameron welcomed the news, saying: “We want to see superfast broadband brought to peoples\u2019 homes and businesses right across the country and this exciting news takes us a step closer towards reaching that goal.”
\nPricing for the Virgin Broadband<\/a> 100Mbps service, which also features 10Mb upload speeds, starts from \u00a335 a month when taken as part of a broadband and phone bundle, or \u00a345 when purchased as a sole package.
\nNew customers switching to Virgin Media can currently get broadband speeds up to 50Mbps and weekend phone calls for as little as \u00a312.50 a month as part of the company’s new 6 months half price offer.
